The Smart Protection Server is a purpose-built, hardened, and performance-tuned 64-bit Linux operating system. It is essentially a virtualized Linux appliance that runs the Smart Protection Server in a self-contained VM. It is only available as a virtual server when the role is separate from the OfficeScan server.
A local cloud-based server that distributions file and web reputation updates to all Tufts OfficeScan clients utilizing SmartScan options
- All clients will look to this server for primary file and web reputation services.
- The technology works by off-loading a large number of malware prevention signatures and lists that were previously stored on endpoints to Trend Micro Smart Protection Servers or Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™.
- System and network impact of signature updates to endpoints is greatly reduced
