LANDesk Interface
Layout
Above is a screenshot of the default Landesk console interface. The Landesk console is divided into 4 sections.
Section 1 is used to move between the various components of Landesk. Selecting something from section 1 opens up that component in section 4. As you can see in the screenshot, there are several components open, including distribution packages, scheduled tasks, column sets etc. You may see less options in Section 1 as different people have access to different components, depending on their needs.
Section 2 is called the network view. It controls what is displayed in Section 3. There are 3 options you will use here: Devices, Queries, and Configuration
- Devices is the most commonly used menu. "All Devices" will show all computers that you have permission to see (also called scope) in section 3. The other groups within the devices menu can be used for organization as necessary.
- Queries are used to search and organize devices. They can search any information gathered by inventory. As with before, "All queries" will show you all the queries you have permission to see and the other groups are used for organization.
- Configuration is rarely used. It contains some information that is necessary for specific tasks within Landesk but isn't used on a regular basis. In fact, you may not even see the Configuration menu in the network view.
Section 3 contains a list of devices based on what is selected in Section 2. There is a search box in the top left hand corner of this section which can be used to search for specific computers. This search only searches in columns shown. You can customize these columns in Column Set Configuration in Section 1. Right clicking on a device will display all tools, options and information available for that device. This includes Remote Control, inventory information, task history and other options.
Section 4 contains details for the component selected in section 1. Each one of these sections has different layouts which are explained in further detail in the wiki pages for those respective sections. Overall, there is a toolbar which performs functions related to that component. You can mouse over each button in the toolbar for information about it. Just below section 4, you can see a list of all components you have opened previous. These tabs can be used to switch between components.
Some of these functions are also available in the menu bar at the top of the application so feel free to use the menu bar if you prefer.
