FAQ
Software Licensing
STATA is a statistical software package licensed from STATA Corp. More information about the software can be found at http://www.stata.com.
License Term
The term of the software license varies depending upon the product and "bundle' selected. The purchase is directly with STATA Corp.
License Codes
When the license is acquired, Tufts' designated STATA software administrator will send the purchaser the license codes.
Platform(s)
STATA is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Unix platforms.
Maintenance, Fixes
The availability of maintenance and fixes will depend upon the software purchased and the license agreement for that particular software.
Versions, Upgrades and New Releases
License holders are permitted to run only the version of the software purchased.
Type of Purchase
Tufts University has agreed to participate in the STATA GradPlan. By agreeing to have STATA products shipped to a single university address and to distribute purchased products in a timely manner, Tufts is given substantially discounted prices.
Authorized Use. (Subject to change at any time.)
The software may be purchased by University faculty, staff or students.
Any restrictions on use will be noted in the license agreement that ships with the software.
Obtaining a License and Media
To obtain STATA software, go to http://www.stata.com/order/new/edu/gradplans/campus-gradplan/ where you can order and pay for the software. Once STATA notifies the university's STATA software administrator that the order has been placed, the purchased software will be available for pickup on the Medford Campus. Tufts' designated STATA software administrator will contact the purchaser with the details.
Package information
Package is available in Landesk - search for Stata in all packages.
Packaging information is available below. STATA.lic file can be copied from the STATA working directory once you install the software on a machine.
You have to use your own license file for your software package (STATA.lic) . Do NOT just deploy existing package in Landesk.
Create STATA.LIC
If the client has the Serial Number, Code and Authorization code you can create a STATA.lic by typing:Â
"Serial Number!Code number!Authorization number!Tufts User!Tufts University!NUMBER!" into a notepad and Save As "STATA.LIC"
EG: 123456789123!123a 123a 123a 123a 123a 123a 1!abcd!Tufts User!Tufts University!NUMBER! (Exclamation point ! exist between the entries). You can modify existing STATA.lic file from already licensed machine for easy setup.
Place the STATA.LIC in Program File/Stata13 as the user (change the security setting on the folder to allow the user to place the .lic file into the folder if XP) and reopen the program to activate the license.
Unattended command line installation
http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/windows/install-from-command-line/
Example:
@echo off :: Install Stata start /wait Setup.exe /qn ADDLOCAL=Ado,Core,StataIC64 :: Copy license file to work directory copy /y STATA.lic "C:\Program Files (x86)\STATA13" :: Setting Stata to not update on startup , no prompt copy /y sysprofile.do "C:\Program Files (x86)\STATA13"
Disable auto updates and prompts
You can disable the automatic updating with the following commands:
               set update_query off
               set update_prompt off
in a "profile.do" file. Stata looks for the file profile.do when it is invoked, and if it finds it, executes the commands in it. Stata looks for profile.do along your ADOPATH and in the current directory; we recommend that you put profile.do in your Stata install directory.
For more information on the profile.do type -help profile- in your command line. Also, point your web browser to the URLs below.

Note for system administrators: If you have settings you want to make for all Stata users at your site, or if there are certain settings you want to apply before the user’s profile.do is executed, you can do so with a file named sysprofile.do. sysprofile.do works just like profile.do, but Stata searches for it first and will execute the commands in it before those in profile.do. A common place to put sysprofile.do is in the directory where Stata is installed. See the manual sections referenced above for more details.
