Symantec Endpoint Protection
NOTE: Support for Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macs was discontinued effective May 11, 2014. Users are advised to convert to the Trend Micro product for anti-virus protection for Macintosh computers.
Overview
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 was just placed on our FSP network shares for use with all versions of OSX 10.7 and below. This version supplants version 11, and may be installed over version 11 to upgrade, or installed on a fresh system as a new installation. The software is located at: \\titan\software$\FSP\Symantec AntiVirus for Mac\Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1
IT groups should consider using Trend Micro Security for Macintosh since managed product that allows IT groups more control.
There have been discussions about discontinuing Symantec Endpoint Protection so IT groups should be hesitant to install it.
Uninstalling Symantec
Symantec includes an application and a shell script with the installer for Symantec Endpoint Protection. The application will present a list of Symantec Applications and let you select which ones to remove and the shell script will remove all symantec products. Unforuntately neither one of these solutions can be used with Landesk because they both require user input.
There is a modified copy of the shell script attached to this page and located at \\titan\ldeskpackages$\Medical\Production\Symantec\RemoveSymantecMacFiles.sh that will silently remove all symantec products and will not reboot. The products will not completely uninstall until the user reboots their computer.
