Licensing
For a number of years, Tufts has maintained a 500-user license for SAS Institute’s Education Analytical Suite and has charged a fee for SAS use. Recently, TTS converted the University’s SAS license coverage from limited to enterprise-wide.
Under this new license arrangement, the SAS Education Analytical Suite and SAS Genetics is now available for no fee to:
(a) Tufts University employees using the software on institutionally-owned computers
(b) Tufts University employees for installation on personally-owned computers
(c) Tufts University students for installation on their personal computers.
Software licensed under the Education Analytical Suite may only be used for teaching and research, and some other restrictions may apply depending on your circumstances.
For additional information or to request an installation, contact your support IT group or go to http://it.tufts.edu.
License Expiration
- SAS licenses expire yearly on September 30th.
- SAS has a 45 day silent grace period, and an additional 45 day period within which the program will still function with a nag window.
- On December 29th, the program will stop working, unless license update is provided
- To see if the license is up to date follow the instructions listed here
License Renewal
- SAS is updated every year by either pushing an update packages through Landesk for the different version, or manually using the license files (setinit) provided by UIT. The files are distributed yearly through elistsoftware-distribution@elist.tufts.edu
Manual update
License renewal for version 9.x is done by using the update program located and pointing to the .txt file for the corresponding version. "C:\Program Files\SAS" should have Authenticated Users added with modify Permissions to ensure proper execution from the user.
