Support

Case 1: These are the steps that need to be followed when a user wants a new installation of the iNMR software

Who

What happens

End User

Downloads and installs the software (requires administrative password)  from the iNMR/Mestrelab web site: www.inmr.net
OR
Submits a request to TechConnect or it@tufts.edu to install software

Support Provider
or the Service Desk Analyst or the user

Contacts the Chemistry Department to assist with obtaining a new key:
Since the request is for a new key, the request needs to include the user name and the computer serial number where the software is to be installed.   The appropriate serial number is obtained as follows:

  1. The Support Provider goes to (or the Service Desk using the Bomgar tool connects to or the Service Desk has the  requester go to)  the computer where the software is to be installed
  2. Working from that computer, go to the iNMR registration page for iNMR (http://www.inmr.net/Help3/task/register4.html)
  3. Step 3 of that process will generate a serial number that will look like the following:       Name   W85190PMSDW <-- serial number that will be used by Mestrelab to generate   a unique key for the computer where the software is to be installed.
  4. Send (i) the User’s name and (ii) the generated serial number and (iii) the MAC address to the Chemistry Department at inmr-request@tufts.edu.  The email should specify whether the computer is Tufts owned or personally owned.  Please do not send the email from iNMR.

Chemistry

  1. For each new install, Chemistry will request a license key by contacting either Cristina Geada (cristina@mestrelab.com) or Giuseppe Balacco (giuseppe@inmr.net).  Requests must include, for each key requested, the user’s name (or the name of one of Chemistry’s designated technical contacts) and the computer’s ID (serial number) where the software will be installed.
  2. The key, once received, is recorded by Chemistry along with the user name and computer MAC address and then that information is forwarded to (i) the Chemistry Department at inmr-request@tufts.edu to provide an audit trail and (ii) the End User (if in Chemistry) or the Support Provider or Service Desk Analyst, as applicable.

End-user, Service Desk Analyst or Support Provider

  1. Using the key obtained from Mestrelab (via Chemistry), registers the software by following the instructions provided at step 8 in the registration dialogue found at http://www.inmr.net/Help3/task/register4.html

Case 2: Key Deactivation: Key is no longer required because, for example, the user has left the university or has transferred to a new department or a license deployment on a public (e.g., lab) computer is being removed and Tufts needs to recover the old license for re-use.

Who

What happens

Support Provider

Contacts the Chemistry Department at inmr-request@tufts.edu for a key deactivation:

Since the request is for a key deactivation for an existing install, send the prior end-user’s name and the old key for the prior installation to the Chemistry Department at inmr-request@tufts.edu.

Case 3: End User or IT Service Provider wants/needs to move the iNMR software to a new computer.  This is a 2-step process that will involve de-activating the old key and obtaining a new, replacement key.

Who

What happens

End User

Contacts the Chemistry Department at  inmr-request@tufts.edu for a replacement key.
Since the request is for a replacement key for a new/replacement computer, the process will be the same as the one followed if requesting a new key.  The request needs to include the user name and the computer serial number where the software is to be installed.   The appropriate serial number is obtained as follows:

  1. The Support Provider goes to (or the Service Desk using the Bomgar tool connects to or the Service Desk has the  requester go to)  the computer where the software is to be installed

 Problems/Questions?

  • Support personnel encountering difficulty with the download, installation and activation process should contact either Cristina Geada (cristina@mestrelab.com) or Giuseppe Balacco (giuseppe@inmr.net) at Mestrelabs.  Since the vendor representatives are located overseas, allow 24 hours for a response.
  • Support personnel wanting to determine whether a software request is authorized, should contact the Chemistry Department at  inmr-request@tufts.edu.
  • Software licenses are manually expired by the vendor on the annual anniversary of the invoice date (month and day) for the original purchase and reactivation of the keys will be required.   However, if the renewal is received by Mestrelabs before the anniversary date is reached, Mestrelabs will allow the license keys to remain active for another year, and reactivation can be avoided.
  • Should there be a problem with the contract for the licenses, please contact Lionel Zupan in TTS: Lionel.zupan@tufts.edu
