Adding drivers for DPInst

The drivers, which DPInst uses, are located under \\titan\ldeskpackages$\Drivers . For new model computers, driver packs need to be downloaded for DPInst to be able to install the drivers

To add additional drivers for new hardware, follow the directions below.

Make sure to create properly the folder tree under ldeskpackages$\Drivers folder, otherwise the drivers may not install properly

manufacturer (e.g Dell) + model (e.g Optiplex 3020)  + os (e.g Win7) + architecture (e.g x64)

Dell

  1. Go to http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/2065.dell-driver-cab-files-for-enterprise-client-os-deployment.aspx. (You must be logged into the Dell website to access the CAB files) (New page https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln312414/dell-command-deploy-driver-packs-for-enterprise-client-os-deployment?lang=en)
  2. Select your model and OS from the list on the right
  3. Select "Download Now" on the next page
  4. Unarchive the .cab file, and place the content of the file in the appropriate \\titan\ldeskpackages$\Drivers\Dell\ folder

Lenovo

  1. Go to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page
  2. Use the product selector to select the appropriate type, series, and subseries. Make sure you select "All machine types".
  3. Go to the enterprise management section and download the necessary SCCM package. It will be an exe. Run the exe to extract the drivers to a folder
  4. Copy the extracted contents in the appropriate \\titan\ldeskpackages$\Drivers\Lenovo\ folder

Determining the Folder Name

DPInst is looking for a specific folder name when it's called to install drivers for your model. If it doesn't see this name it will not install anything. To determine what this name should be:

  1. On the model of computer you'd like to add, copy Detect_Manuf_Model.exe from \\titan\ldeskpackages$\drivers to the desktop.
  2. Open up a command prompt, navigate to the file's location and then execute the file
  3. The name listed next to model is what the folder should be called
  4. For Lenovos, the model will display as "XXXXXyyyyy Friendly Name" (eg "031942U ThinkPad Edge") Please only use the Friendly name for the folder name ("ThinkPad Edge")
