How to Create a Sub Menu on VEMS Home Page
Overview
Web menu items are designed to appear as a first-level menu item on the Space & Resource Reservation (VEMS) homepage. Standard configuration allows one sub menu to be attached to a parent menu. With additional steps, multiple sub menus can be created.
There are two fundamental rules governing this process:
- If the web menu has a link, it cannot have a sub menu
- A parent menu can have only one sub menu
Dependencies
- Web Client or Desktop Client access
- Creation of parent menu item
- Creation of sub menu item associated with parent menu item
Summary of Steps (Web Client)
- Navigate to: Configuration/Web/Web Menus
- Click “New”. Create the third level menu item (the sub menu item)
- Menu Text will appear on the Space & Resource Reservation (VEMS) web site
- Sequence is the order in which the sub menu will appear
- Add the appropriate link (if linking to an existing website)
- For the Parent Menu, Select “None”
- If the menu item should appear to authenticated users only (e.g. user must be logged in to see menu item), check the box “Authenticated Users Only”
- Temporarily update second level menu item
- Select the second level menu item
- Set the Parent Menu to “None”. (This setting will allow you to attach a sub menu). Be aware that on the Space & Resource Reservation System (VEMS), this will now appear as a parent level menu item.
- Attach the third level sub menu item to the second level menu item
- Select the third level menu item
- Set the Parent Menu to the second level menu item
- Reset the second level menu item to reflect the true parent menu
- Repeat these steps to create additional sub menu items.
- Use the “Sequence” to manage the order in which the sub menu items display
Note
The “temporary” steps will be visible in the Space & Resource Reservation System (VEMS) until all of the steps are completed.
