1. Open the Mac and make sure it's connected to the LAN or Tufts Wireless (mapping one of your network drives is a great test).
2. In the upper-left corner, click the Apple and select System Preferences. When the System Preferences window opens, click Printer & Fax.
3. Click the + (plus sign) in the lower left side of the window to add a new printer.
4. Enter the following:
- Protocol: Select HP Jetdirect-Socket
- Address: NETWORK_PRINTER_NAME.tccs.tufts.edu
Example: TCCSCANON318N.tccs.tufts.edu
The path won't work unless the printer name uses the printers exact same letter case as it appears on the server. Open Tufts_Printers_5_12.pdf to view a partial list of the exact naming convention of Tufts networked printers.
- Queue: Same as your networked printer name and path.
Example: TCCSCANON318N.tccs.tufts.edu
- Name: Accept the default entry (should auto-fill with the address).
- Location: Add descriptive text, such as TAB classroom printer.
- Print Using: May auto-fill. If not, select Generic Postscript Printer.
5. Send a test document to the printer.
