Mount a Tufts printer on a Mac
1. Turn on the Mac and make sure it's connected to the LAN or Tufts Wireless (mapping one of your network drives is a great test or a google search).
2. In the upper-left corner, click the Apple and select System Preferences. When the System Preferences window opens, click Printer & Fax/Scanner.
3. Click the + (plus sign) in the lower left side of the window to add a new printer.
4. Click on IP tab to view the following:
5. Enter the following:
- Protocol: Leave default Line Printer Daemon - LPD
- Address: IP Address or DHCP Name
- Example: Cindy.med.tufts.edu
The path won't work unless the printer name uses the printers exact same letter case as it appears on the server. Open Tufts_Printers_5_12.pdf to view a partial list of the exact naming convention of Tufts networked printers.
- Queue:Should automatically populate once Address is filled in
- Name: Accept the default entry (should auto-fill with the address).
- Location:Â Should automatically populate once Address is filled in
- Print Using: May auto-fill. If not, select Generic Postscript Printer or Select Software... to pick the correct driver.
- Usually if does not auto fill then the computer does not have the driver. Go to the vendor website to download the driver.
5. Send a test document to the printer.
