TUSMGP Instructions for Updating SSN’s

Here are instructions you can use for anyone who calls about needing to update their SSN for
financial aid purposes. Note that this won’t work if we already have a SSN in the system (Slate) for the
student—it is only for students who don’t have a SSN at all.

If they are calling because their SSN is incorrect, that is a different problem, and is handled separately.

  1. Students should login to their application status portal. They should use
    the email address and password they used to create their application account (not their Tufts
    username or password, if they have one).

  2. Once they login, they should scroll down until they see a box in the middle of the page in
    green with a link to update their SSN. (See screenshot 1 on next page.) They should click the link
    to go to the Add or Update SSN Form.

  3. In the form, all students will need to do is add their SSN to the field and click submit (see
    screenshot 2).

  4. After they have done this, the SSN is in Slate and will feed up to SIS the next day, but it
    will take 3 – 5 business days for it to update in the Office of Financial Aid/PowerFaids.
