This works beautifully, except the way the data comes across in the API. You can see the \n\n for line breaks embedded in the sample essay code where line breaks should be.

Any paragraph fields could have these weird line breaks.

  • Why Tufts

For the 2024 cycle, I did an import after data freeze, which caught everything except “Why Tufts”. This was an export of all these fields in Slate, replacing the “/n” line break characters with spaces, and uploading it back into Slate so the readers were not fighting with the extra characters.

All of these fields are currently mapped in the “submitted” file…options for handling this data are:

  1. manual export and upload of WebAdmit data after data freeze

  2. automated one-time SFTP transfer of data from WebAdmit to Slate

  3. continue with the download from Slate, search/replace, and upload back

For 2024, 3 is the backup plan; a development issue has been created to explore the WebAdmit option.
