St George Interns

I don’t think we need to set these guys up in Slate. This is a very easy, quick, and simple process for me as it is and there is no application involved. This was the first time I had someone who applied to Tufts previously, so now I know what to do.

Hi, Patty,
When you are on the Quick Admit Screen, that first line where it says 'New'--if you type in her ID number there, it will create a program plan stack for her with that old ID number!
(and once we are done with the DVMs, we should chat about setting up an application for these folks in SIate so you aren't doing this by hand~)

Integrations
Hi, Leigh,
The short answer is that we don't have any idea what is going on in AS&E, especially not undergrad, so reaching out to them directly is probably your best bet.
As for integrating MessageBird, it seems like it could be done, but would require a developer to do it. We do not actually have any Slate developers; Helen and I are reasonably tech savvy, but are not programmers.
If this is something you want to pursue, I can figure out what a next step might be—just let me know.

Hi Beth,
Initially we would look at using as a conversion tool for students on awaiting submission to complete application and also for admitted students. So circa 1000 students, with multiple messages. But in the future could be used for inquiries as well, which would be much higher volume.
On another note I heard that Tufts UG is using WhatsApp groups to engage with students? Do you happen to know where/who is doing this as would love to learn more.
Hi, Leigh,
I am totally unfamiliar with MessageBird—let me do some research.
What sort of volume are you thinking?

Hi Beth,
Thanks for the quick response,
I found the same post so seems they have not integrated with WhatsApp as an embedded solution for Slate institutions. The manual upload could be an option. Alternatively if we license a service such as Message Bird (That has What’s App integration and API functionality) do you think we could automate the push of interactions/messages from message bird back into Slate?

Thanks for your assistance.
Kind regards

Hi, Leigh,
The short answer is 'no':
Form a post from the Slate CEO in 2022:
With regards to Whats App, there are a number of restrictions and requirements that WhatsApp imposes that may limit its actual utility to you. First, you cannot send mass messages through WhatsApp through any platform. This is against their terms of service. Second, you can only initiate a message to a user on their platform, or even reply to a message that was sent more than 24 hours ago, unless your message comes in the form of a WhatsApp template, meaning that you cannot have a personalized message---it has to be something pretty formulaic. There might be some value to this type of a conversation in Inbox, but you'd have to respond consistently within 24 hours of receiving a message or you'd lose the ability to respond with a personalized message. Third, there is a separate vetting/approval process for WhatsApp, a separate cost structure charged by WhatsApp, etc., so it won't offer the same capabilities of SMS...which has supported international texting in Slate from the beginning.
That having been said, if you can export your communications out of Whats App, we can do a manual upload to get them into the record, even if there is no automation.
I hope this helps!
