How to perform OSD via PXE
Requirements for the computer
- Ethernet NIC Registered in BlueCat
- Minimum 512 MB of RAM
- Computer object created in Active Directory
In the BIOS
- Harddrive SATA Operation set to AHCI or Auto-Detect
- Network Card turned on w/ PXE operation.
- Computer to be built must be on the same Subnet as a PXE Server
- As it stands, that means the 130.64.68.x subnet (M+V 2), check landesk for updated subnets, or deploy your own PXE server to use a different subnet.
Begin Building
- Turn on the computer and at the system screen, press "F12" repeatedly.
- Select Network card
- Watch and Wait
- After the PXE Server has been located, you will be prompted with an option to load the Pre-boot provisioning menu (F8)
- Hit F8, you will have 4 seconds.
- Select Windows PE Provisioning
- A RAMDISK image will be loaded from LANDesk, this will enable the computer to load a build interface to perform the rest of the build process.
- Once the RAMDisk Image is complete, you will be prompted with the option to enter your Tufts credentials (Active Directory.)
- Select the appropriate template(OIT-ProvisioningTemplate-88sp3-v*.* PUBLIC) you would like to use to build.
Troubleshooting
If the WinPE image loads but you are never prompted for credentials, the computer probably isn't registered in bluecat.
- Open a new command prompt by left clicking on the green icon in the bottom left corner and select new console
- type ipconfig and verify the computer has a 130.64 IP address. If it has a 172.16, it needs to be registered on the network. If it has a 130.64 and you are still not being prompted for credentials, speak to a senior technician
If you never get the prompt to hit F8, there could be an issue with the PXE rep. Check with a senior tech,
