Backups
- Items that have been deleted from Outlook are retained for 30 days and can be restored client-side or in OWA by recovering deleted items (in Outlook, Tools > Recover Deleted Items)
- A special kind of backup, called a "frequent recovery point", is also taken throughout the day so Exchange can be recovered to within minutes of loss of data from only the last 24 hours.
- Database backups are taken nightly and weekly.
- Full backups are taken once a week.
- Incremental backups are nightly.
- The first full backup of every month is retained for a year.
- Additional full backups every month are retained for a month.
Restores
- For Exchange restores, users should be encouraged to use "Recover Deleted Items" for data lost within the past 30 days.

Information required to process a restore:
- Username
- Folder name
- Restore files as of this date: the date which the last known good file was
- Restore Destination: custom - only if the client wants the restore in a new location
