Codian
About
The Codian (also known as the bridge or Multipoint Conferencing Unit (MCU)) bridges different endpoints allowing sites and sources to connect together in a single conference channel.
Technical support staff and administrators can use the Codian to access predefined bridges on the Tufts campus.
Logging into the Codian
To access the Codian, complete the following steps:
- Browse to http://uit-mcu-8510.uit.tufts.edu
- Enter with your login credentials. Note: Please email support-systems@tufts.edu to have an account created.
Accessing a Bridge (Conference)
After logging in, complete the following steps:
- From the Main Screen, click Conferences.
- Locate your desired conference in the list. You may need to page over (page 1, page 2, etc.) to locate it.
Dialing Out from the Bridge
- From the Main Screen - Conferences, locate your desired conference.
- To dial out, click Add Participant.
- Complete the following fields:
- Address - add address of desired room (typically room@tufts.edu) or call Jabber account using a Tufts email address.
- Click Call Endpoint.
- When finished testing, click Disconnect (hang-up icon).
Creating a New Conference
To create a new conference, complete the following steps:
- From the Main Menu, click Conferences.
- Scroll down, and from the middle of the page, click Add New Conference.
- Complete the following fields:
- Name - enter a name for the conference. Choose a name that is meaningful and easy to remember (e.g. SAT Meeting).
- Numeric ID Registration - select both H.323 and SIP Registrar.
- Visibility - select Public or Private.
- Note: Public conferences are viewable from the MCU main page when accessed from a conference room. If you do not want your conference to be displayed in the general MCU listing, select private.
- Select additional options as desired.
- Scroll down. Click Add Conference in the bottom left corner.
Connecting an Audio Call to a Video Conference Using the Bridge
Step 1: Create an Endpoint
- From the Main Menu, click Endpoints.
- Click Add H.323.
- Complete the following fields:
- Name - enter a name for the conference call. (e.g. SAT Audio Bridge)
- Address - enter the full path of the dial in number (e.g. 03118005018979)
- DTMF Sequence - enter the Host Code and its associated PIN
- Example: --,,6274553#,,7528#1,,,# (be sure to enter all of the commas and '#' signs)
- Click Update Endpoint.
Step 2: Adding the Endpoint to the Bridge
- From the Main Menu, click Conferences.
- Locate the desired conference from the list of conferences. You may need to page over in order to locate it.
- When found, click onto the name of the desired conference to open.
- Click Add Participant.
- Scroll down. Available endpoints are listed at the bottom of the screen. Using the check boxes, select the Endpoint you just created.
- Click Call Selected to connect.
