Known Issues for o365

Open Issues

OWA

  • There is a current bug acknowledged by microsoft that only chrome mac users (not Safari or Firefox) can use mailbox search. Until a patch from microsoft is applied to the cloud services, searches for people or mail must be completed using Chrome on a macintosh computer.

Mobile Apps

  • Feature Comparisons between Full Office and Web-Based Office Feature Comparison
  • iPhone 4: OWA app for iPhone not compatible with my (older) iPhone 4. "This app is incompatible with this iPhone". (Melanie)
  • Mobile Apps for OneDrive, Lync, and OneNote do not work with federated authentication, they only work with Microsoft Specific accounts.

Desktop/Physical Office Pro Plus Licensing

  • You cannot install multiple versions of Office. Either Office Apps or Local Office.
  • Unable to authenticate via AFDS after selecting "Manage Account" from the account tab of Word 2013. (G Moore)
  • Licensing will deactivate if system clock is not set to atomic time.

Authentication

  • Office 365 is using ADFS (sso365.tufts.edu) similar to Tufts.Box.com. The web browser MUST be closed in order to log out from o365 Services
  • Licensing Apps requires the use of utln@tufts.edu not any combination of the following:
    • first.last@tufts.edu
    • utln
    • tufts\utln

Calendar

  • Calendar Delegation, Sharing, Full Permissions. etc. will only function within the same site. On Premise to On Premise or Hosted to Hosted. If two mailboxes need to work with calendar sharing then they must be either both on site or both in the cloud

Contacts

Public Folders

  • Cloud-based accounts (o365) will not have the ability to view or interact with on-premise Public Folders

Skydrive

  • A Tufts Skydrive is required for interaction with the o365 Apps
  • Only 100 files at a time can be uploaded
  • File sizes up to 2gb are supported for upload
  • Unable to sign into Skydrive on a licensed copy of office installed from the office365 site. Tried UTLN@tufts.edu, first.last@tufts.edu, and UTLN@exchange.tufts.edu. Error is "This type of account doesn't work with this particular service. Please enter an email address associated with a different account."

Mobile Apps

  • iPad App Testing - Installation and Configuration (Cristy)
    • Started with OneNote - app does not allow me to authenticate either using my Tufts email address or UTLN with my Tufts password. Will continue adding other apps and see what the results are.
  • Unable to sign into Office Mobile on Android. It asks for a username and password. Once I enter *@tufts.edu, I am redirected to the ADFS page. At the ADFS page, I enter my tufts UTLN and tufts password but it refreshes back to the initial login page (before ADFS)
    • Works for lraymo02, same device. May be a problem with the AD account.
  • Windows Phone (Marc)
    • Windows Phone 7.5 or Windows Phone 8 comes preinstalled with four Office apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
    • In addition, an OWA client comes preinstalled for setting up a mail account using Outlook.com, an Exchange server, or Office 365.
    • A Windows Phone user can optionally install Lync and SharePoint by downloading them from the portal website. This is done by sending an SMS to the phone and opening the links within the SMS application. The SMS can be sent to a 10-digit US phone number only using the portal website. (Warning: text and data rates may apply). Alternatively, the apps can be downloaded on the Windows Phone by opening a web page to http://www.office.com/business-apps. The SMS simply provides a link to this website. The website filters available apps and provides a clickable link which redirects to the Microsoft store. A Microsoft account is required to sign in, purchase and install the free app.
    • Attempting to set up an Office 365 account appears to share the same mail app that would be used for our normal Exchange server or for an Outlook.com account. I removed my Exchange account to attempt the O365 connection. Using outlook.office365.com for the server name does allow me to connect my account using utln@tufts.edu for the username. However, it results in an error (screenshot attached).
  • Windows Tablet (RT)
    • Windows RT comes preinstalled with Office 2013 RT and included Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013, and OneNote 2013. Since only applications from the Windows Store can be installed on a Windows RT device, you cannot install the version of Office that comes with Office 365 (namely, other applications including Access, Publisher, Outlook, Lync, and InfoPath). Using the Office 365 portal, a user can get access to O365 email, work collaboratively with team members and work on documents. The user can also configure Metro apps if they want to use email, calendaring, contacts, or messaging.
    • A link does appear below the Office applications which points users to the Metro versions of OneNote and Lync through the Microsoft Store requiring a Microsoft account to purchase this free software.
  • iPhone web email, via Browser (Melanie)
    1. Email page doesn't scale properly (gets cut off). wait, actually it might be the Windows new side-scroll interface. (not a convention on Apple).
    2. Email Search performance is slow, but it might be because of test instance? (getting good Tufts wifi reception)
    3. Email (visual hierarchy): strange choice to make the "sender" much larger than the "email subject". Email subject tends to be first thing we scan.
    4. The spinning icon (at the top of phone) is constantly turning. What will be the toll on battery life? Is it any different than other sites?

Authentication

  • Login is inconsistent across many browsers. The ADFS redirect works but after entering Tufts credentials the page hangs or provides an error (attached)
  • If you authenticate in Chrome 30 and your session times out, you are repeated redirected to the ADFS page but authentication fails silently (the page refreshes).
