GitHub Copilot License Request
GitHub Copilot is a cloud-based artificial intelligence tool developed by GitHub and OpenAI to assist users of Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Neovim, and JetBrains integrated development environments by autocompleting code. This product has an additional monthly fee for each license.
GitHub Copilot licenses are available to members of Tufts Technology Services (TTS) under the Tufts Technology Service GitHub organization. There are a limited numbers of seats available. You must have approval from a director, manager, or supervisor before requesting access to Copilot. In order to request access to GitHub CoPilot, please ask your manager/supervisor to submit a ServiceNow request to it@tufts.edu to request access and include the Github username(s) of staff who should be given access. More than one staff member username can be included in a single ticket.
After receiving the approval, a member of the ESCP Team will assign you a seat for GitHub Copilot. You will receive an email from GitHub when access is granted. See an example email below.
As noted, GitHub Copilot is a licensed product and the University incurs a monthly cost. If it’s determined you don’t need this license, after requesting, please send an email to it@tufts.edu indicating that your seat is no longer required.
If you’ve elected to reuse your existing Github account with the Tufts Github enterprise, please note the following. According to Github’s documentation Pricing for GitHub Copilot Individual:
“If you have an active GitHub Copilot Individual subscription, and are then assigned a seat as part of a GitHub Copilot Business subscription, your personal GitHub Copilot subscription will be automatically canceled. You will receive a prorated refund for any remaining portion of your personal subscription's current billing cycle. You will then be able to continue using GitHub Copilot according to the policies set at the enterprise or organization level.”
It is also strongly recommended that users of Copilot review the following to ensure that any data that should not be “sent” to Copilot is excluded: Excluding content from GitHub Copilot - GitHub Docs
