Research Technology Infrastructure
- High Performance Computing
Researchers have access to an IBM 170+ node cluster with over 2000 64-bit cores (RHEL 6.2) with 16-128 GB RAM per node, and 10GigE interconnect. This is a central service offered at no cost to clients. Cluster accounts can be requested at http://research.uit.tufts.edu. More information is available at http://go.tufts.edu/cluster
- Research Storage
Researchers who need backed-up, network accessed storage for research data can request storage shares, 50 GB to 1 TB (or more). These shares are not associated with P: and Q: drives. Shares can be used for workstation access or cluster mounted, not both. Research storage can be requested at http://researchstorage.uit.tufts.edu. Access to research storage can be granted to outside collaborators.
- Software Licensing
Many commercial software packages are hosted on our research high performance computing cluster: Abaqus, Ansys, Comsol, Fluent, IDL, Maple, Matlab, Mathematica, and Stata. For desktop applications, network concurrent licensing is offered on a per product basis. These products are offered at no cost to clients. To utilize software on the HPC cluster, a cluster account is needed.
- Visualization
The Tufts Center for Scientific Visualization, located in Anderson Hall, provides a visualization wall for advanced visualization. Researchers can display high resolution stereo images ( 4096 x 2160 ) on a 15 ft by 8 ft screen using a dedicated graphics workstation, supporting RedHat Linux, Windows, and OSX operating systems. Personal laptops can be used also, but at lower resolution (2048 x 1080). Access to this facility is by granted card access ( application required: viswall-support@tufts.edu ) and an R25 account for scheduling. Each new user is required to complete a one hour training session prior to using the facility.
- Collaboration
The Tufts Center for Scientific Visualization may be used for Video Conferencing. Contact via email viswall-support@tufts.edu to discuss arrangements.
- Bioinformatics
Many current bioinformatics programs and suites, and genomic databases are located on the high performance computing research cluster. Additionally a Bioinformatics Server ( http://emboss.uit.tufts.edu ) offers access to EMBOSS/wEmboss, a sequence analysis package ( see About EMBOSS ). An account to access EMBOSS can be requested at http://research.uit.tufts.edu
