Bug Description

From Patty LaFleur: In all previous years, we used to be able to go to the VMCAS tab on the bottom right-hand side, and click on edit.  I could then cut and paste in a corrected version of an essay or a new/different YouTube video link.  Now I’m not seeing that option on the VMCAS ta.  Is there a new way to do this?  Perhaps in the portal?  I have to replace a few essays with corrected versions.   I sed Kaitlynn Moore below as an example.  I need to replaced her video link.  Thanks

Troubleshooting/Research

Went to the Field Editor tool to find fields that seemed related to Patty’s request. Identified the following fields:

vmcas_personal_statement

tufts_supplemental_video

tufts_supplemental_essay_prompt

tufts_supplemental_essay

None of these fields had any settings in the Display tab:

But they did have a Category of VMCAS:

Still not sure why these were available before to Patty, and if something changed in Slate to cause them to no longer be in that tab?

Checked the Custom Tab tool in the Database, looks like TUV is not using any custom forms to make custom tabs, so VMCAS tab is still displaying information based on the Field configurations. Checked a few fields that are displaying on the VMCAS tab to see how they were configured, they all had the Tab under Display set to VMCAS:

Went to TEST to change the field configurations and ensure this wouldn’t erase any data and would get the fields to show up in the correct tab:

  • Was able to add the Tab, Group, and an Order without altering the data (confirmed by refreshing the field cache and viewing a sample applicant).

  • Noticed when using the “edit” tool in the Tab view within the applciation that both Essay text fields were very short (even though displaying a paragraph, when editing the window to edit was a single line). For fun, switched the Edit Field > Advanced Settings > Data Type from Text/Unspecified to Multiline, and this did change it so when editing a much larger window appeared; got nervous I would break something so quit doing experiments and decided to just do what Patty asked me.

Resolution Steps:

  1. Go to Database > Field Editor and open each of the four fields:

    1. vmcas_personal_statement

    2. tufts_supplemental_video

    3. tufts_supplemental_essay_prompt

    4. tufts_supplemental_essay

  2. In each, go to Display tab and select:

    1. Tab: VMCAS

    2. Group: Essays (type in exactly)

    3. Order: Assign a number to display in a specific order, I did 200, 210, 211, and 220.

  3. Refresh field cache.

  4. Spot check a few random application files to ensure fields are now displaying in the tab:

  • No labels
