Dynes at Tufts

What is Dynes?
Dynes is a file transfer protocol unlike all the others such as ftp, scp, rsync,etc... The goal is to provide high speed point to point data transfers using a dedicated network comprised of servers and optical networking links/paths beyond what is normally used for Internet and commercial networking traffic. Data transfers are scheduled in order to benefit from dedicated point to point transfers.

Where can one learn more about Dnyes?
DYNES

Can this service be used between any two academic institutions?
No, not directly. Participating institutions are the endpoints for Dynes transfers. Arrangements to move data beyond a dynes site is up to you.

What is needed to use this service?
An account on the Tufts Dynes server is required. Tufts faculty and research staff are eligible. You may send a request to cluster-support@tufts.edu. Access to the account is with ssh and scp based programs as it is on the cluster. The account will follow the Tufts UTLN name convention practice.

What else is needed to authorize Dynes access?

Files of 100s of gigabytes would benefit. Transfers of multiple TBs would benefit the most.

How much local storage is available for my data?
On the order of 1TB.

If I have a current Tufts Research Storage NFS allocation, can this be mounted to the Tufts Dynes server?
Yes, NFS mounts may be requested from the Tufts Research Storage infrastructure only. You may send a request to cluster-support@tufts.edu.

How about Tufts Research Storage allocations that are Windows CIFS exports, are these supported?
No, not at this time. This project is inactive.
